| Promising Development Opportunities There are four distinct neighborhoods in Des Moines that accommodate business development.
Downtown Des Moines is a an old fashioned waterfront village; home to restaurants, a major grocery store and unique shops to explore in this pedestrian friendly neighborhood. Offices, medical services and a variety of other retail and service companies can also be found here. This area is adjacent to the Des Moines Marina. The Downtown plan allows for buildings up to three stories and encourages mixed-use development. Redondo East is a commercial community located on Pacific Highway, south of Kent Des Moines Road . This area is home for highway retail and light industrial uses. Redondo Square, at the southern tip of this neighborhood located at 272nd and Pacific Highway, is a community oriented shopping center that is home to Safeway, Ace Hardware. Bartell Drugs and other full service retailers. The building height in the Redondo East area is 30 feet and there are a number of development and redevelopment opportunities. Des Moines Creek Business Park. This business park area is located along 216th and includes a 90 acre vacant parcel owned by the Port of Seattle. It is also the home of the Steven J. Underwood Memorial Park, a 20 acre sports park. North of 216th there are several 5 acre parcels available for redevelopment. Building heights vary from 75 feet in the north portion of the Business Park to 30 feet in the southern portion. |
