CAREGIVER’S SUPPORT GROUP Join our group on the 1st Tuesday of each month from 1-2pm to encourage one another, share experiences, exchange practical information and explore ways to preserve our own health, strength and sanity. DIABETES SUPPORT GROUP It is not easy dealing with diet, exercise and testing blood sugar. Come and share your successes and failures in a friendly atmosphere on the second Thursday of every month from 1-2:30pm. The topics for discussion will be those participants are most interested in. Co-facilitators are John Carroll and Kathy Health, who also have type II Diabetes. For more information call Des Moines Activity Center 206-878-1642.
Falls Prevention South King Co. Fire and Rescue participates in a falls prevention program. To qualify, you must be 60 years or older, live independently, have either fallen in the past or be at risk of falling and live in Des Moines or greater Federal Way. Educators from the fire department will visit your home to do a safety assessment. They will cover why falls happen and give you ideas on how to reduce injuries at home. They can also install risk reduction devices such as: night lights, bathtub bars, shower chairs, raised toilet seats, hand-held showers, bathtub mats, carpet skid pads and bed rails. Every Tuesday at 10:30am, with Wilma Matz, volunteer health mentors. Meet at the Activity Center. The group decides where to go for a local area walk, rain or shine! A suggested donation of $1 is appreciated.
