The Des Moines Activity Center is a community focal point where older adults and their families come together for services and activities that reflect their experience and skills, respond to their diverse needs and interests, enhance their dignity, support their independence and encourage their involvement in and with the Center and the Des Moines community. We focus on service to ALL AGES in the community who have needs, issues, and interests with older adults. Classes offered by Des Moines Activity Center are for 50 and older with space for those younger than 50 on an availability basis. Our hours are Monday, 8am-8pm (May through September) , and Tuesday through Friday, 8am-4pm. Call the Center at (206) 878-1642 if you have questions or comments.
INSTRUCTORS WANTED! Des Moines Parks, Recreation and Senior Services is looking for instructors to teach morning, day and evening classes for the community. Do you have a skill or talent to share?? Art, crafts, languages, cooking, do it yourself, etc. For more information please call Sue Padden, Des Moines Activity Center, 206-870-6584 or email Spadden@desmoineswa.gov.
AARP Income Tax Assistance Trained volunteers from AARP will provide assistance with your 2009 income tax returns at Des Moines Activity Center beginning February 2 through April 13. Tuesday appointments, 9am-12pm, will be available. Call (206) 878-1642 to make your 45 minute appointment.
2010 Participation Cards Everyone who participates at the Activity Center is asked to complete an annual Participation Card. These cards help us attain funding from various agencies. The higher the number of participants, the more stable our funding becomes. This card also provides us with valuable emergency information. Cards are available at the Activity Center front desk or you download a copy and mail it in to: P.O. Box 98576, Des Moines, WA 98198. THANK YOU!

Dental Van 2010 Monthly Visits Grace Lutheran Church, in partnership with Medical Teams International and the Des Moines Legacy Foundation, offers FREE dental van service eligible clients of all ages. Clinics are scheduled once a month through 2010. Basic dental care is offered to patients who have no dental insurance or are low income. For more information on clinic 2009 dates and to pick up a dental application, please contact Des Moines Activity Center, 206-878-1642. Applications must be submitted prior to appointments for screening. Proof of income will be required.
Sunday Dances Slip on your dancing shoes and join us for dancing to live, big band music. Dances are held on the 4th Sunday of the month from January through November, except in May, when the dances is the 3rd Sunday from 1-3:30pm. Cost is $5 per person. For more information call 206-878-1642.

Des Moines Activity Center publishes a bi-monthly newsletter detailing our programs and services. Newsletters are available by subscription or by picking up copies at area businesses and city facilities.
