Environmental Friendly Car Wash Kit!

Available to charities to use for free of charge
We all know that summer is just around the corner and many outdoor activities are in motion. Car washing is a common routine for residents and a popular way for organizations such as scout troops, schools, and sports teams to raise funds.  If you are planning Car Washing activity for your group/organization for this summer; remember that the City of Des Moines requires that charity car washes use special Car Wash Kit to prevent soapy wash water from entering our storm drains.  Driveway car washing is one of the most environmentally un-friendly chores we can do around the house.  ‘Only Rain In the Storm Drain’ Unlike household waste water that enters sewers or septic systems and undergoes treatment before it is discharged into the environment, what runs off from your car goes right into storm drains -- and eventually into rivers, streams, creeks and wetlands where it poisons aquatic life and wreaks other ecosystem havoc. After all, that water is loaded with a witch’s brew of gasoline, oil and residues from exhaust fumes -- as well as the harsh detergents being used for the washing itself.

This Car Wash Kit is provided free of charge to charity organizations along with training. This device is catch basin-insert and pump captures soapy water runoff, allowing it to be pumped into sanitary sewage or vegetated area for treatment.

Option to be considered instead of Car Washing:
Charity organizers can buy redeemable car wash ticket from Puget Sound Carwash Association at $2 and resale it at $5 to $8 without getting wet.  For more detail log on http://www.charitycarwash.org

Options for Residential Car Washing:
Use a commercial car wash station
Wash your car on gravel, grass or other permeable surfaces.
Use hoses with nozzles that have automatically shut off when left unattended.

It is illegal to discharges or dumps waste into surface water i.e. creek, ditch, stream, catch basin or any body of water. Dispose your unwanted waste appropriately. Please report any illegal activities!!!
