Open House
Des Moines Transportation Gateway Project

The City of Des Moines invites the public to the fourth Open House on the Transportation Gateway Project to be held on Tuesday, November 2, 2010 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the Des Moines Senior Activities Center, 2045 S. 216th Street. The purpose of the meeting is to view how the City is finalizing design of improvements to two major arterials:

  • 24th Avenue South from S. 208th Street to S. 216th Street
  • South 216th Street from 29th Avenue South to 18th Avenue South

These transportation improvements are needed to accommodate existing and planned growth in the area. Streets will be widened including additional travel and turn lanes, signals, drainage, curbs & gutters, storm drainage retention and treatment facilities, sidewalks, bicycle lanes, and planter strips.

The design follows the preferred “offset alignment” that minimizes impacts on developed properties as recommended in preliminary design. The City’s engineers have finalized this design with surveyed plans and profiles so one can, for example, see how curbs, driveways, sidewalks and planter strips are aligned as well as details on urban design elements. Detailed environmental and engineering studies have also been completed and the attached SEPA notice is open for comment thru November 8, 2010. Next steps include finalization of the right of way plan and underground utility plans.

All are interested citizens are invited to drop in on this Open House, visit our Web site @ http://www.desmoineswa.gov/dept/pub_works/projectgateway.html or call Len Madsen, Special Project Manager, Public Works Department, 206.870.6525.

PLEASE REMEMBER TO VOTE: November 2 is Election Day. Mail your ballot early.
