Youth & Teen Basketball League

2009 YOUTH & TEEN BASKETBALL LEAGUE

Land O’ Frost Lunchmeat has again sponsored our youth teams by helping us promote programs for youth age athletes.

So please take advantage of some of the different benefits Land O’ Frost Meats is offering.

 

Registration Starts Tuesday, September 1st (All Ages)

 

Sept. 1st to Oct. 5th                                $60

Oct. 6th to Nov 3rd                                 $70

Nov. 4th to Nov 16th                               $80

Nov. 17th to Dec. 5th                             $95

 

December 5th is the deadline / no registrations accepted after Dec. 5th                   

 

SCHOLARSHIPS:  Scholarships are available to qualified participants. No scholarships will be allowed after October 31st. If interested, please apply and provide the correct information to the Field House office. IMPORTANT:  Any player who is qualified for a scholarship will not be put on a roster until the participant’s portion is paid in full.

 

TEAM REGISTRATION:

For all leagues

Sept 1st to Oct. 5th: Team registration will be $600

October 7th to October 31st: Team registration will be $700

Nov. 1st to Dec. 5th: Team registration will be $800.

 

To register as a team, player forms must be complete for each player, a copy of the birth certificate for each player must be included and payment cash, check, Visa, or MasterCard. MAXIMUM of 12 players per team!  Incomplete team registration packets will not be accepted.  To register, please bring appropriate fee and a copy of birth certificate and team registration packet to the Des Moines Field House, 1000 South 220th Street. 

 

GENERAL INFORMATION:

This is only a recreation league!  Divisions are as follows: Kindergarten co-ed league, 1st/2nd Grade Co-Ed; 3rd/4th grade; 5th/6th grade; 7th/8th grade; and 9th-10th grade boys leagues.  There are also 3rd/4th grade; 5th/6th grade and 7th/8th grade girls leagues.

 

Kindergarten and 1st/ 2nd grade divisions are co-ed.  These divisions will practice and play games on 8-foot baskets.  Emphasis is placed on skill development, team play, and fun.

 

TEAM FORMATION:

Kindergarten – 9th/10th grade boys and up to 7th/8th grade girls will be formed for these ages based on skill level and school attending.

 

New this year there will be no 5th and 6th boys tryouts.

 

TEEN DIVISIONS:

Boys and girls grades 7th -10th boys and 7th –8th girls will participate in the South King County Teen Basketball league with teams from Tukwila, Renton & SeaTac Parks & Recreation Departments.

 

COACHES MEETING:

There will be a MANDATORY coaches’ meeting on Monday November 2nd at 6:00pm at the Des Moines Field House, 1000 South 220th Street. 

 

PRACTICES:

Practices will be held once a week after school to early evening at the Field House or local school gyms beginning the third week of November.   No practices during school closures.

 

GAMES:

Games will be played on weekends and during the week at the Field House or local school gyms starting Saturday, December 12th.  Youth teams will play games on Saturdays and some weekdays. Please check your schedule closely, schedules are subject to change.

 

TEAM SPONSORSHIP:

The City of Des Moines Park & Recreation Department is looking for basketball team sponsors. Let your business be seen by thousands of potential customers!  Sponsorship of a team is $135 and you may sponsor one or more teams.  Team sponsorship allows participation fees to remain affordable, shows community involvement and advertises your business.  To sponsor a team or for more information please contact Ralph Thomas at (206) 870-6586?
