Des Moines Finance Department
The Finance Department is responsible for the overall financial operations of the city; including budgeting, accounting, vendor payment, payroll, revenue and tax collection, and cash management. The division prepares the City’s financial statements, which includes the monthly financial reports and the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report. It provides revenue/expenditure monitoring and projection, records all accounting transactions, and develops accounting procedures and reports. Its duties also include cash management and control, budget coordination, financial oversight and assistance in grant administration, management of audit costs, and acts as a liaison between City staff and the State Examiner.
