It is the policy of the City of Des Moines to promote and afford equal treatment and employment practices to its employees and applicants for employment and to assure equal employment opportunity based upon ability and fitness of any person regardless of sex, age (except minimum age and retirement provisions), race, creed, national origin, sexual orientation, marital status or the presence of any disability, including sensory, mental or physical handicaps, unless based upon a bona fide occupational qualification in relationship to hiring and employment.

Employment Application
Applications for City employment will only be accepted when a vacancy exists and only for the time period specified in the job announcement. All openings require a City application, a resume in itself is not acceptable, but may be attached to the City application. Please review employment notices carefully for deadlines.  Mailed applications must be postmarked by the deadline time and date.  Late and/or incomplete applications are not considered eligible for consideration of employment. Faxed applications will be accepted  for general positions as long as the faxed copy is received before the deadline and the original is received within five days.  FAXED APPLICATIONS FOR CIVIL SERVICE POSITIONS (ALL FULL-TIME POLICE DEPARTMENT POSITIONS) WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.  The City does not maintain a job announcement mailing list.
