The City of Des Moines and the Port of Seattle are partnering together to bring economic development to the City and region through construction of the Des Moines Creek Business Park. The 89-acre site is located along South 216th Street across the street from the Post Office and west of 24th Avenue South. Formerly a residential neighborhood, the property was purchased by the Port through its Noise Remedy Program and all the houses on the site were removed.

The types of businesses the Port is proposing for the site are logistics such as air cargo and distribution, manufacturing, and office. A master developer will decide what the ultimate development will be and the timing of development. It is expected that site development would be phased over a 7- to 10-year period.

State Environmental Policy Act review of the project is currently underway and is scheduled to be completed in early 2007, with a Draft Environmental Impact Statement scheduled for release in October 2006. The City and Port will enter into a Second Development Agreement in early 2007. The Port would then enter into an agreement with a master developer. Groundbreaking could occur on the site as early as late 2007.
